This is the skull of the Black and White Colobus monkey that is found in East Africa. Its the largest of the Colobus monkeys. It is also sometimes known as Colobus abyssinicus. Few extant colobines remain in Africa today although in the past they were diverse. In contrast, in Asia greater diversity remains today. The African fossil colobines from the Miocene, Pliocene, and Pleistocene are unlike the few remaining living African taxa. Instead they have similarities with extant Asia colobines, which have a broad ecological adaptations and include several semi-terrestial species.
