The African Civet, Civettictis civetta, is the largest member of the extant African Viverridae. They are nocturnal animals and have a omnivorous diet that comprises of eggs, insects, carrion and small vertebrates. They range across much of the African continent. The skull of the African civet has a distinct sagittal crest which serves as the attachment for the muscles that power their robust jaws, and as a result they have a strong bite. The African Civet has a total of fourty teeth. The dental formula is 3/3, 1/1. 4/4, 2/2.
