This beautifully preserved young adult mandible was found in 1973 by John Harris, in Area 131 near Koobi Fora on the east side of Lake Turkana. It is dated at approximately 1.9 million years. The specimen has been assigned to different species, namely Homo rudolfensis or Homo habilis. It does shows similarities to a mandible found in deposits near Lake Malawi. An isolated broken third molar belonging to this specimen was also recovered in the sieving. The crowns of several teeth are well preserved, so a complete set of cheek teeth is represented in this specimen.
